1940s 1950s Vintage Rich Burgundy- Brown Iridescent Taffeta Button Front Cocktail Dress with Belt - Sm
Iridescent taffeta is always a good idea, especially when its from the late 40s or early 50s! The color really is so beautiful - I would describe it as a deep, rich burgundy with brown undertones, almost like an old world wine. The color really pop in brighter light too! The best part of this dress though is the asymmetry of the front buttons! It also hooks in the front at the waist. It features a lovely, almost gathered neckline and a matching belt. The sleeves too have a bit of a gather at the end. Shoulder pads are present, but could be cut out if you dislike them. There is no label, except for a stamp on the belt that I could not make out. I would say it’s likely a hand made pieces. Would likely best fit a modern Small. Model is modern size 4/6 for reference.

Measurements of Dress: Please note for flat lay photo, it was VERY difficult to get the tapes to lay! But they are still available for reference.
Bust: 36 inches (model is 34B)
Waist : 27 inches
Hips: relatively open given style of dress
Length: 48 inches
Sleeve Length: 20 inches
Good vintage condition - There is some overall wear to the garment and the belt. Belt backing has some bends and then there is wear to the fabric in places. The dress has some wear in places including a few smaller holes and one repair I found near the hem (last photo). The piece as I mentioned above looks handmade to me, though honestly still made REALLY well. I say this only because the skirt seems ever so slightly longer on the right side of the piece, but I do tend to find this happens sometimes with late 40s and 50s pieces. I honestly wonder if it’s just something that isn’t noticeable when the piece has a crinoline underneath so they left it?
Taffeta likes to wrinkle! So hang this up as soon as you receive it.
All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise.
