RARE 1950s Vintage Pink and Off-White Tulle Cotillion Originals Formal Prom Wedding Party Dress - Sm (has been taken in)

$295.00

What a gorgeous strapless prom or wedding dress! The folds to the fabric make the bodice unique and it holds itself up with some boning. The dress is comprised of a delicate off white overlay in what feels like thin possibly nylon - in an almost eyelet design - atop the prettiest pink crinoline skirt! The look is completed with the asymmetrical pink band across the bodice and matching scarf. The matching scarf allows you to achieve an almost princess Grace look. The label is for “Cotillion” and “M” in marker has been written on the tag. The dress has been taken in across the chest area and slightly tapering down towards the waist - so there is some room to let it out if needed. Would likely best fit a modern size Small currently, but if you undid the alterations and let it out, it MAY fit up to a modern medium. For reference, model is a modern size 4/6. Pictures of the seam allotments are provided. Pearls and other accessories are not part of the dress, just used for styling.

Current Measurements :

  • Bust: about 34 inches (accounting for the cups) ; model is 34B and it fits well, though the wire from the bodice in the cups did feel a bit bent.

  • Waist: 26 inches

  • Hips: relatively open (both dress overlay and tulle are circles - the innermost lining is not)

  • Length of dress (from top of bodice, down): about 45 inches

  • Total Length of scarf: about 122 inches

Good vintage Condition- There is some overall wear to dress. Some occasional pulls to the floral details of the overlay as well as wear to the fabric including small pricks, scuffs, and pin holes found- this seems most noticeable on the pink fabrics of both the bodice area and the scarf. The stitches that hold the gathering in place on the bodice have come out a bit, though it’s not really noticeable when its on a person as the fabric is pulled taught. There is some discoloration/color fade and marks to the dress and matching scarf. The marks and discoloration is most noticeable to me near the hem of the cotton lace overlay and at the top of the bodice. Honestly, this particular issue may come out if you are braver than I with your cleaning techniques -as I did not use anything that was super harsh, just a good clean in mild detergent. Obviously the color fade cannot be remedied - though this seems like its mild and most pronounced on the scarf. Additionally there is a rust spot found on the bodice as well, but it was between folds and should not be noticeable when dress is worn. You can see a few loose threads as well as stitches here and there that don’t seem to impact wear. The interior of the garment also exhibits wear. The boning has some wear and bends to it and the inner most lining has a small hole at where the tulle meets it as well as some color fade. The dress was taken in so there is some room to let it out if needed. The hem is slightly shorter below where it was taken in, it’s likely a result of it having been taken in. The edges of the skirt of the cotton overlay only have occasional synthetic “horse hair” to stiffen it, but this seems intentional. Minor wear to the tulle. Fabric of sash likes to wrinkle.

All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise. If you are uncertain about fit and/or need more measurements please ask! If it is provided in the listing, models and/or dress form sizes are used as a point of reference only. Please remember that all bodies are different so always defer to the measurements I provide and check them against your own, preferably on a similar style garment.
