1940s 1950s Vintage Black Velvet Loose Short Opera Jacket- OS
Vintage black velvet is always a good idea. This gorgeous piece serves as a looser style jacket. It only closes at the neck with a tie. While it does have sleeves, the style is very similar to a capelet. Perhaps it was originally intended for use as a winter bed jacket given the silhouette, though it could easily be worn as a covering for a formal gown. It’s lined in an ivory fabric. No label or size tag. Given the closure it should be relatively open in size, but please refer to measurements. Model is modern size 4/6 for reference.

Measurements :
Bust: relatively open given there is no closure here
Waist: relatively open given there is no closure here
Sleeve Length: about 17 inches (there is no seam to measure from)
Length: 22 inches
Good Vintage Condition- There is some overall wear to the piece. A few small marks and what feels like two tiny mended holes found on the velvet. There is some minor crushing to the velvet as well in a few places and some faint spots. The interior has a number of marks and areas of discoloration that did not come out with dry cleaning. There are numerous seams on the piece that have some fraying or look to have possibly had some minor repairs (under the collar, the neck tie, the sleeve seams, etc.). Given this I would say that the piece is likely a bit delicate and should be worn with care and likely stored in an archival box (I would not hang this- or honestly any old velvet- long term!!!)
All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise. If you are uncertain about fit and/or need more measurements please ask! If it is provided in the listing, models and/or dress form sizes are used as a point of reference only. Please remember that all bodies are different so always defer to the measurements I provide and check them against your own, preferably on a similar style garment. If you need more information about my measurements and vintage sizing please refer to my FAQs section under my Shop Policies page and ask me, I am here to help!!
