1950s 1960s Vintage Burgundy & Gold Plaid Shirtwaist Dress with Pocket - Petite XL or 1X

$75.00

A lovely shirtwaist dress that could easily become your next wardrobe staple. The color is primarily burgundy, but the plaid includes golden toned thread as well as thin sandy, orange, and red stripes. There is one large front pocket too! The dress buttons fully up the front. It features belt loops and has the original belt! There is no label on this dress, but the same dress in a smaller size was labeled for “Hattie Leeds”. There is no content tag, but it feels like cotton. It is thinner and light weight, so I would recommend wearing a slip. Would likely best fits modern Petite Extra Large, or 1X but please see measurements. For reference dress form is modern Medium.

Measurements :

  • Bust: 46 inches from flat lay, 48 pulled taught - I do think bodice area is meant to fit a bit loose, like a casual shirt.

  • Waist: 36 inches

  • Hips: 50 inches

  • Length: 41.5 inches (measured from back of collar straight down) - it has been hemmed shorter by past owner and given its shorter length its likely best for a Petite size. But you could make it longer by restitching it as there is still fabric there to use.

  • Sleeve Length: about 5 inches cuffed, but there was no seam to measure from

  • Belt: between 36.5 and 40 inches with the current holes

Good to Fair Vintage Condition - The dress presents beautifully overall and seems wearable as is but there are a few issues to note. First some overall wear to the dress with some color fade - in some areas color fade is more pronounced than in others. There are a few loose threads and tiny pulls here and there that do not seem to impact wear. Some minor wear to buttons/buttons holes and belt. There is some fairly obvious evidence of past repairs as well as modifications to the piece. It has been shortened and the hemming thread is different throughout. There are repairs to various seams as well as the pocket. Additionally there is some extra stitching in a red color on the bodice and the pocket for some reason. This is not a flaw but I want to mention that a lot of blue thread was used when this dress was made (like at the buttonholes) - it was intentional but I just thought it worth mentioning. Some wear to inner seam allotments. Because of the hemming, bottom button is a bit difficult to button up - but does still work! I have chosen to leave this shortened as I know there are not many petite vintage dresses out there - but you can always let it out and re-hem it (which would solve the issue of the different color thread).

All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise. If you are uncertain about fit and/or need more measurements please ask! If it is provided in the listing, models and/or dress form sizes are used as a point of reference only. Please remember that all bodies are different so always defer to the measurements I provide and check them against your own, preferably on a similar style garment. If you need more information about my measurements and vintage sizing please refer to my FAQs section under my Shop Policies page and ask me, I am here to help!!
