RARE Antique 1920s Vintage Green & Cream 3 Piece Silk Flapper Dress and Jacket Set - XS
Absolutely stunning 3 piece dress set from the 1920s - to get a set surviving together for a century is absolutely astonishing!! The green and cream silk make a lovely combination. And their light weight silk fabric are wonderful for warm weather. These pieces were found at an estate sale for the Triad Stage costume department in Greensboro NC. There were hundreds of authentic antique and vintage pieces there, but most had labels added to them like what you see here. These cannot come off as they are glued on. While the tags for this set say 4 piece, I was unfortunately only able to find 3 of them. There are no other tags found to the pieces. Fabric feels like really light crepe silk. The jacket is more like a duster, with no closures, dress and slip are both pullovers. For reference dress form is modern size 0, seemed to fit pretty perfectly, especially given the style of fit is meant to be loose.

Good to Fair Vintage Condition - First and foremost, I do not mean to write all this to frighten you, again with pieces this old I cannot help but be cautious as my training as an archaeologist runs too deep and I have had far too many talks with museum conservationist in the past about improper treatment of textiles that obviously forms my bias and opinion (and fear ?) I have for anything of this age, rarity, and worth. Especially given its a set that has survived together for a century!
That being said, considering the age and delicacy of these pieces, while everything exhibits obvious and expected wear, inside and out, both the dress and jacket are in pretty good shape. The dress slip is however not in the best of shape and is likely better for parts. PLEASE NOTE these pieces are super old and delicate and I have not done anything to them as I truly believe these piece should be looked over by a professional conservationist (though do with it as you see fit as this may be my over cautious archaeologist coming out once again). This is why it’s priced the way it is. As such, sold as found.
The jacket and dress both have numerous marks and areas of discoloration in places, including at the underarms. They each have some small holes, pinholes, and areas of wear to the silk, suggesting they are delicate and need attention from a conservationist soon. One side of the tie on the dress is not tacked down like the other side - this does not seem to impact the look or wear at all though. Both have minor seams pops, loose threads, evidence of minor past repairs. The slip has shattered in multiple places as well as exhibiting color bleed, discoloration, and marks. One seam of the slip is undone about a foot and a half, causing what looks like a side slit on the dress form. There is also some issues with the strap of the slip. Together, these would make a beautiful piece for a collector or museum, as well as lovely studies. I would caution anyone who wants to wear it outright before a PROFESSIONAL conservationist has a look at it - but honestly I would suggest this for anything of such an age and rarity. I will do my best packaging this item with acid free archival paper. Though if you are storing it or any piece of this age for long term I highly recommend getting proper archival storage boxes (there are a number of websites and museums that sell these).
PLEASE NOTE: The true color is more like that in the first image. And remainder that all screens are different. Colors in person of the pieces are something between a jade and kelly green and a sandy cream.
