RARE 1950s Vintage Samuel Winston Ice Blue Structured Taffeta Dress - Sm

$55.00

An incredibly unique structured vintage cocktail dress that would be great for the holidays. This icy blue 1950s gem with its unique structuring on the sleeves and bodice is like nothing I have ever seen! It really is so beautifully made, and for those of you like me with a flatter chest, it really gives the illusion of a larger bust. Lovely pleating at the skirt as well. Fabric feels (and sounds!) like taffeta! Zips up the back with metal zipper. Label is for “Samuel Winston”- a harder to find label in my experience. There is no size tag. Would likely best fit a modern Small. For reference, model is size 4/6.

Measurements:

  • Bust: 36 inches BUT there is some gathering to allow for a bit more room in the cups

  • Waist: 26 inches

  • Hips: about 38 inches but there is pleating to0

  • Length: 41.5 inches

  • Sleeve Length: about 8 inches (the gathering makes it somewhat difficult to measure as it can be moved up or down a bit)

Fair vintage condition - While the dress presents beautifully and can still be worn as is, there is some overall wear and markings to the piece (hense Fair). On the outside of the dress markings and discoloration are present all over, though in photos and in person, most of these are not noticeable from afar. The biggest issue is the markings and wear on the inside of the dress - which are pretty significant. Unfortunately despite cleaning, none of this even lightened! The only way to get rid of those stains seems to be to get rid of the entire lining… but that would require significant work and deconstructing the dress in its entirety. There is some crushing, a few tiny pin holes and wrinkles to the fabric as well, so hang it up as soon as receiving to prevent more wrinkles. There are thin loops for a belt, but the original belt is no longer present. Some minor mending looks to have happened in the dress’s past near the zipper. Priced lower to reflect the issues. May be best for costume or study.

All measurements are approximate as they are taken flat - for garments specifically this means where applicable (bust, waist, hips) has been doubled unless stated otherwise. If you are uncertain about fit and/or need more measurements please ask! If it is provided in the listing, models and/or dress form sizes are used as a point of reference only. Please remember that all bodies are different so always defer to the measurements I provide and check them against your own, preferably on a similar style garment. If you need more information about my measurements and vintage sizing please refer to my FAQs section under my Shop Policies page and ask me, I am here to help!!
